Matt 5:43 "You've heard it said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.."
We all share waves with our friends but that guy that's dropping in on everyone needs to be taught a lesson. In fact, I'm going to sit right on top of him and snake him every chance I get for the good of all the other people in the water. At the end of the day I convince myself that I'm a lot like Robin Hood - I take waves from the bad guy and give to the groms. And surfers worldwide agree that it's the right thing to do.
Jesus goes on in Matt 5 to say that even the pagans treat their friends well but He is calling us to more. All people agree that we should love those that love us. But, Jesus says to act in love toward those that hate us. What He doesn't say is that whenever we do this great stories will unfold about how the person met us on the beach and in tears said they were sorry and offer to buy ice cream for all the gremmies. What He does say is that our Father in Heaven will see what we do. In the end that's all that matters and that is a true measurement of who we really surf for.
Honestly, Who do you surf for?
