Open our Mouths

08.31.09

Four weeks ago we wrote down 3 to 5 names of friends that don’t yet know Jesus. You posted those names somewhere that you see them regularly and are now praying for them. An overwhelming number of you emailed those names to us and we are now praying with you and for your lost friends. BTW, if you didn’t write down those names or email them in – do it now. Just click here.

FYI, through this campaign we have been praying for one of our members – Richard “Smitty” Smith and for his friend Matt. Matt embraced Jesus on August 23!

We began praying the “Three Open Prayer”. We began with John 6:44 and asking God to Open our Friend's Hearts to a friendship with Jesus. Next we prayed that God would Open a Door for us to talk with our friend about Jesus. This week is number three in the Three Open Prayer.

When a person asks questions or shows an interest in spiritual truth it is evidence of God beginning to open their heart. Once a natural conversation has begun we have one last hurdle to overcome – ourselves.

In Ephesians 6:19 Paul says, “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the Gospel.” There are a couple things we need to notice about the Great Apostle Paul. 1. He doesn’t always have the answer – we know that b/c he asks prayer for God to fill his mouth with words. 2. He is afraid and nervous when he speaks of Jesus – we know that b/c he asks prayer that he would speak “fearlessly”. Are you ever nervous or afraid to speak of Jesus? Do you ever feel like you don’t have all the answers? So did Paul.

The next thing that we need God to open is our mouth.

So, pray the three open prayer – Open Hearts, Open a Door, and Open our Mouths. Then open your eyes and begin to look for God to show up and when HE does – talk about Jesus.

If you are unsure about sharing the Gospel, email us and we’ll send you a simple pamphlet that you can use with a friend. Also, consider coming to one of our training experiences with CSUS. Click here for details on the next one.
