Dependency

11.5.07

I love surfing new spots! I love experiencing new environments, the adventure, and all the unique nuances a new spot brings. But, there's also something I dread about a new spot. I dread either looking like a fool or having to rely on a fellow surfer for local knowledge. This is especially true of a new reef break with a tricky entry/exit or a gnarly rock in the middle of the takeoff spot. And let's face it, local surfers are rarely lining up to share their years of hard won knowledge with the new guy/gal.

Jesus looks at situations like this very differently. In his book Wild At Heart, John Eldredge, points out that Jesus lived in total dependence of his Father. Not only this, Jesus was stoked about his dependence on God. This was a point of pride, not embarrassment for Jesus. John 6:57 says, "I assure you, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing". How fortunate are we that the Creator of the universe desires to share everything He has and knows with us. Who do you surf for?
