Have you ever tried to tell a non-surfer what it’s like? I mean, how do you explain “the Glide?” As CS member Rick Grahame says, “It’s like describing a beautiful sunrise to a blind man.” It really is something you have to experience, not be told about. Like a grom coming out of the water for the first time with that expression that can only mean, “It’s better than I even dreamed it would be.”
Following Jesus is like that. Preachers talk about how we are “hard wired” to live and surf for Jesus. They tell us that we will find true joy when we live that kind of lifestyle. We’re told that when we live or surf for anything else we’re missing out and it saddens God because He desires the best for His children. But it’s not something you can be told – like surfing. In fact, in Psalm 34 God almost dares us to try Him out and see that He is the real deal. “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in HIM.” Why not test it? For the next month, commit to reading about Jesus in the Bible every day (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John). Take note of what He says and give it a try. Then at the end of the month you decide if Jesus is who He says He is.
Who do you surf for? If it’s not Jesus, why not give HIM a try?
