Can God Use Surfers?

12.17.07

Luke 2:8-20

“And there were shepherds…” Shepherds were pretty low on the social ladder in Jesus’ day. Some historians say their testimony was not even permissible in court. Why would God choose them to proclaim this Good News. I think the Angels would have been a much better choice and after all they were already in the neighborhood. But HE didn’t choose the Angels. Nope, HE went for the smelly shepherds.

In 1 Corinthians 1:26-31, it says that God enjoys taking the weak person and doing unbelievable things through them so that everyone will realize that it’s GOD who’s the hero.

As you look around the United States, who would you pick to tell the world Good News? There are many impressive groups and subcultures that people would be inclined to listen to. Not to be too hard on us, but, would you pick surfers? Spicolli has done a lot of damage to our reputation. Surfers aren’t known as the most reliable, mature, or wise. But, that’s just the kind of people God says He will use if they will let Him.

During this amazing holiday, will you take the chance to believe that God can use us surfers with all our inadequacies? Maybe that’s exactly why He chose us and he plans on filling the gaps with His grace. But, we have to let Him take the lead. Who do you surf for?
